What's the difference between a Healthy Concert and a House Concert?
WHAT DO HEALTHY CONCERTS STAND FOR?
It`s true, I was thinking of calling it a day...

Who needs Healthy Concerts any more?
Its easy to fix up your own gigs using Myspace, address book and email list. What's the point of being part of a group called Healthy Concerts, except perhaps for old time sake - after all, the house concert movement started here in Brighton UK in 1994.

But what Healthy Concerts stand for is happening anyway, right? House Concerts in general are a clean living option and everyone knows about `small is beautiful`, the healthy listening attitude, soft drinks available, children friendly, intimate atmospheres... Maybe.
Good news is, no more smoking here in public venues from 1st July 2007. This means we can go back to the bars, this time performing for people we can see! Best of all, we can sing freely and, even if no-one`s listening, wont be damaging our lungs.

Business as usual, except that the licensing laws are criminalising what you and I are doing. Its a good enough reason to sign a petition - Have you done it yet?

Isn't it a good enough reason to stand together - to stand up for Healthy Concerts?
Actually, I don't want to defend the right of people to turn their homes into full on music venues, packing in as many bodies as possible at the highest tolerated ticket price and at the least expense possible. Local bonafide businesses aren't going to like it and neither is the health and safety executive of any government or council.
Truth is, established music venues can adapt to the needs of professionals and `crowd pleasers` of all kinds. What they can't do very well is nurture new talent and support bold new artistic initiatives. House concerts can do this, and do it cost effectively, provided the artists, hosts and mentors involved are not mistakenly identified as commercial partners, and penalised by the state for it.
In my next breath – death defying / life affirming - I invite you to climb aboard Nizlopi`s AHC (Art of Hospitality Club) and participate in a series of Healthy Concerts that would make the hearts of people everywhere sing with appreciation and gratitude. Who could object to concerts that provide unprecedented opportunities for the naturally gifted, for children, for people isolated because of age, handicap or ill health, for creative artists that just don`t fit into a box - it could be that jewel case. I reflect that my favourite live music moments featured artists and music that had not been recorded or made available in any form, except as LIVE performance.
I’m feeling better already…
