A-Live events schedule (see www.a-live.org.uk for full details):

'A-Live Lounge' first Tuesday monthly from 3rd May at Joogleberry Playhouse, Brighton (best of Brighton's singer-songwriters)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHO OR WHAT IS A-LIVE?

“A-Live's original weekly Tuesday night, called ‘ShutUp&Listen!’, was started in Brighton during January 2003 by Nic Briscoe (www.ting.me.uk) and fast became a packed haunt for those wanting quick bursts of Brighton’s burgeoning underworld music scene - raw song-writing talent, spellbinding performance, quality acoustica and live risk taking... all in an intimate, friendly environment. A-Live is run by songwriters for songwriters and for those who love original songs, live music and performance.”

Anyway that’s what the local press in Brighton said recently.

Essentially A-Live’s principal activity WAS promoting singer-songwriter-lead events.

Originally A-Live aimed to give new, up-and-coming, and established singer songwriters a relatively hassle free opportunity to perform new material, make new contacts, check the competition, get seen by record companies, managers, promoters, build a following, entertain, get inspired... or simply just have a drink with some mates and play for the hell of it.

Now ALL proceeds from ALL A-Live events go towards it's fundraising. All artists give their services free, and most venues either supply their space free or at a vastly reduced rate. Currently A-Live is fundraising for Ukrainian Singer-Songwriters.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHO THE UKRAINIAN SINGER-SONGWRITERS ARE:

'E-95' is the musicians project of "Our Generation" youth group, supported by aidconvoy.net, and based in Chernihiv, 30 miles from Chernobyl.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT A-LIVE IS TRYING TO ACHIEVE?

*The supply of musical equipment to the Ukrainians.
*Provision of training & support.
*Culture exchange between the UK & Ukraine.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT'S NEEDED:

*Cash.

*Musical instruments and related equipment.

*Your experience (see below 'How you can help').

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHY YOU SHOULD HELP THEM?

*There is massive financial disparity between people there and here.
(A professional person there will earn US $20-50 a month, yet musical instruments and equipment will cost at least the same as it does here).

*Training opportunities for aspiring professional musicians in Ukraine are extremely limited.

*Young people in Ukraine today have a deeply uncertain and insecure future - You can help them develop their dreams and careers, and perhaps supply a little stability.

*They in turn support local causes, including orphanages like Zamglai.

*Because you can.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW WE'LL DO IT:

*Fundraise money for specific musical instruments and equipment. (details available on request).

*Collect donated musical instruments and equipment.

*Deliver the equipment & instruments to Chernihiv. (Bulky items will be transported by aidconvoy.net)

*Help to provide training & support.

*Start a cultural exchange programme, initially with UK singer-songwriters visiting Chernihiv.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW YOU CAN HELP:

*By attending A-Live fundraising events and paying at least the door price. (You can pay as much as you want. A-live guarantees that its net income from these events will be used exclusively for this Ukrainian singer-songwriter project.)

*By donating musical instruments & equipment. Please, please, please bring them to A-Live fundraisers or contact Nic Briscoe direct on 07710 204640 or by email to ting@ting.me.uk. If you need to know exactly what's needed or what's been collected already please get in touch. (A-Live and aidconvoy.net guarantee that all instruments & equipment will be delivered direct to the E95 music project at "Our Generation" youth group.)

*By supporting A-Live's cultural exchange programme. (A-Live is currently looking for musicians interested in visiting and performing in Chernihiv, as well as trying to find people willing to supply their much-needed skills for A-Live's fundraising and cultural exchange projects.)
