BIOGRAPHY of CARL PANNUZZO

From Australia, on is first solo UK tour, Carl is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist (voice, piano, guitar, bass, drums, tuned percussion and harp) with fifteen years performance experience in a plethora of guises and styles.

Sensitively perceptive and laterally observant ~ with an utterly charming wit and wisdom ~ Carl's curiosity of the human condition imbues his music and words with emotion and honesty. He sings with such passion and compassion that Evelyn Harris of Sweet Honey in the Rock exclaimed "You give so much!".

Most known from the unique Melbourne a cappella trio, 'Acapelicans', and as singing drummer from roots-based improvisation band, 'Checkerboard Lounge' (whose famed 7 year residency inspired the development of many great musicians and bands in Australia), Carl has recorded and toured nationally and overseas several times in many musical and theatrical capacities ~ winning competitions, songwriting awards and critical acclaim from a wide variety of creators and audiences.

Active in Environmental campaigns, Carl has worked for 'Friend's of the Earth International' and contributed to the fight against uranium mining on Aboriginal land. Having written the song 'Stop Jabiluka Mine' (which won the Australian Songwriter's Association 1999 'Earthsong of the Year' award), the forty piece choir, 'Australia' that he formed to record it, were invited to perform at the closing ceremony of the Melbourne International Festival the same year. Subsequently, Carl was commissioned to write a song for the launch of the national 'Clean up Australia Day' campaign.

Also renowned for an uncanny ability to emulate sound and style, mimicking exactly, over 50 well known singers/performers ~ ranging from Meatloaf to Dame Edna Everage ~ he performs with Australian stadium rock spoof cover band, Freesnake. Recently he appeared as the voice of a Tahitian totem god in the U.S film production Paradise Found featuring Keifer Sutherland and Natasha Kinski.

But he is at his inimitable best as Carl Pannuzzo ~ offbeat, soulful, and a voice like cracked sugar.
