ELLE OSBORNE
Q: r u a singer~songwriter with a fiddle instead of a guitar?
A: yep. (Elle)
Raised on the North Sea coast of Lincolnshire - where her folks organised festivals - Elle taught herself to sing and play fiddle, and began to play the songs and tunes she first heard through the womb. Coupled with a dry wit and off-beat individuality, her performances take the listener through road-stories and fiddlesongs to dark old ballads, and back again. It's raw and pure, sweet and intense, voice and violin. And utterly compelling.
Elle's debut album Testimony (2000) was nominated in the fRoots magazine Critics' Poll and reviewed as "one of the most compelling performances of the year".
Time Out magazine called her "raw and compelling, passionate and engaging". And Islington Folk Club said "How soon can you come back?"
Touring extensively since 1998, Elle has shared stages with Kate Rusby, Rory McLeod and Eliza Carthy.
In 2003 Elle was featured in Brighton's gigs in digs.
