Profile

The music of Freeflow is constantly evolving and will
include storytelling in our set in the near future . .
We are a five piece band based in Brighton featuring
the sublime sitar skills of Eva Thompson, infectious
keyboard rhythms and ambient soundscapes from Mike
Chantler, together with lively percussionist Luke and
sensitive acoustic guitarist Richard Beard plus the
very recent addition of trombone player Paul Nieman .
. .

Eva has been focusing on bhajans (Indian songs) and a
classical raga and is particularly interested in
exploring the healing capabilities of the Sitar and
the Vina. She trained in Bharatanatyam, a classic
dance style from South India, and came to Britain to
study at the Bharatya Vidya Bhavan Institute in London
for five years gaining a First Class Diploma in Sitar
playing. She has also studied the Vina for three
years, and Kathak dance, a classic dance style from
North India. Eva's career has included modelling for
Marie Claire Magazine, acting in ITV's "The Sketch
Show", and performing Indian music concerts in The
Royal Festival Hall, India and Turkey. She recently
performed with comedian Harry Hill in several of his
live shows . . .

Luke is a young fresh player who also teaches Latin
dancing and is involved with several dance music
projects in and around Brighton . . .

Mike has toured Europe and played many festivals
including Glastonbury - the Golden Moon Cafe in 1998,
on the Avalon stage in 1999 and in the Lost Vagueness
field in 2002; DNTT; Terschelling Island Festival -
Holland, and Strawberry Fayre and ROBODOCK -
Amsterdam. He's worked with contemporary dancers and
performed at many venues including the Camden
Roundhouse, The 291 Club in the Hackney Empire,
appeared on The James Whale Show and was even a judge
for the Brit Awards from 1994 - 97 !

Paul has performed, recorded and broadcasted with many
artists including Diana Ross, George Harrison, The
Stranglers, Paul Young, Gallagher & Lyle, Carol
Grimes, The London Jazz Orchestra, John D ankworth,
Neil Innes, Georgie Fame, Brian Eno and The Soft
Machine. Paul also plays Salsa with London bands - La
Clavé and Roberto Pla`s Latin Jazz (occasionally
backing visiting stars such as Alfredo Rodriguez), &
Brazilian music with Mônica Vasconcelos` band "Nóis"
and Bosco de Olivieras` "Folia". . .

Richard has been playing guitar for 17 years and has
spent the last five years experimenting with different
musical influences. The eclectic range of musical
opportunities offered by Freeflow closely matches this
experimental ethos . . .

The music of Freeflow is constantly evolving and will
include storytelling in our set in the near future.

We will be performing at the Komedia in Brighton at the end of March 2004 . . .
