She specialised in Northern Indian classical music at the Guildhall London, with Viram Jasani from 1984 to 86, and has been studying with Balugi Shrivastav, a renowned musician, teacher and international performer.
She currently plays with Brighton fusion band IndigoEye, a blend of sitar, tabla, violin, guitars, keyboard, gongs and songs.[www.indigoeye.co.uk] They are performing at the One World festival in Kent in August 2008 and at the Wellbeing Festival in Brighton in October.
She has recorded with various musicians in and around Brighton and features on a number of albums playing sitar, guitar, and singing harmonies.
Over the years she has developed her own style on sitar using Indian modes and authentic technique as well as her own compositions, tuning and electronic sound effects. The inspiration within her music comes from an endeavour to reflect the mystery and beauty of nature as well as the inner space from the point of stillness.
Garima is currently working on new material, playing sitar, guitar, and singing with local musicians, Jacqueline Attwood [clarinet and saxaphone]and Paul Chi[guitar and vocals]
Dance - Garima has been teaching Egyptian dance in Brighton for the last 10 years. She gives classes to teenagers and workshops to women at the Dharma School, Brighton.
She is passionate about her dance and music and feels that one cannot exist without the other, the serenity the sitar brings, whilst this ancient dance is very much of the earth, the senses and the feminine.
