Profile
Heartfelt, powerful music from Brighton based Singer-Songwriter HARRIS is what you'll find on his debut album Shapeshifting, reviewed below and released on his own label, Spiral Path Music. Harris' songs deal with the complexity of human emotions from the realms of both observation and personal experience. To him, music is one of the most powerful healing forces available to us.
He's currently working on an Acoustic EP, to be released later in 2003.
Album Reviews:
"The male emotions are just as strong though not as often heard"
(Lyric from Stumbling by Harris)
"If anything could succinctly sum up Harris' musical and lyrical agenda surely these lines would be it. In his debut album, 'Shapeshifting', Harris lays open the hidden secrets of what men really feel. He tells it like it is; doubt, pain, fear, vulnerability, and a love of beauty and innocencE... melding a wide range of musical styles and influences, producer Adam Fuest (De La Soul, Catatonia, Vangelis) has bestowed this work with a timeless feeL... he creates a sound that is the perfect balance between masculine and feminine, light and dark, innocence and experience...the haunting 'Hollow' is outstanding; Volker Schmidt's piano recalls Tori Amos at her best and the string arrangements send shivers down the spine... few voices deserve the label ethereal but Harris' epitomizes the very concept of the word. Powerful and heartfelt, it is the sound of a soul opened for the world to hear. As the striking cover image testifies, this is a man who has laid himself bare."
Niall Bakewell (for 'Music of the Future', Belfast, Ireland)
"For me, this album means far, far more than the sum of its parts. It's like a great poem, in that you find yourself thinking about it at odd moments and wondering about it. Harris needs to be heard, because he's the sort of person who is going to make a difference, is making the world a better place. It's like everyone needs to catch up with him, and this album is a small part of that."
Adele Nozedar (Previous Head of A & R for Arista UK, founder of Rhythm King Records)
"Harris is a haunting lyricist... Daring to expose himself through beautiful melodic songs, with a voice that slinks slowly into the subconscious mind of the listener."
Gareth Lewis (for the 'Brisbane Indie Reviewer', Australia)
"Shapeshifting expresses the dreams of the soul, met by keen welcome of the heart, as a sailor might yearn to hear the songs of the sirens humming off the rocks."
