Profile
Miss Mandy and the Makebelieves were founded one winter night as Nick picked out a few jazz chords in the kitchen. A bolt of inspiration shook Mandy and from her larynx arose a wondrous sound, somewhere between the sob of heartache and the sweet honey of salvation. Teaming up with the inestimable Alistair Strachan on trumpet, the magnificent Jacqui Attwood on sax, and Rhys on bass they have entertained people with wonderful tunes from the thirties and forties.
Transmuting loss and pain into gold, Miss Mandy has the voice of an angel who has come down to the bar and ordered everyone a bourbon.
Miss Mandy and the Makebelieves play jazz standards and original material.
We are playing the Brighton Fringe Festival on May 6th at 4pm to 8pm at the Gardens pub, Kensington Gardens, and at the Brunswick Pub on Holland Road, May 13th at 3pm.
