I had an idea for a SPONTANEITY ENTERPRISES CENTRE, incorporating Furniture is Fun Enterprises, as long ago as 1988. Have a look below and tell me what you think.

CONCEPT
A community resource dedicated to highlighting the virtues of improvisation in art and business - to celebrate creativity, spontaneity, life... in a dynamic environment, portable/movable props, energy exchange, all props for sale, no permanent fixtures, no fixed charges/pricing scheme, users as both gallery patrons and interactive participants - role flexibility.

SPONTANEITY ENTERPRISES AGENCY
Registers Artists who 'create & display' their work simultaneously. Explores & creates work opportunities for such artists

SPONTANEITY ENTERPRISES CENTRE
Incorporating: room(s) designed for spontaneity enterprises and interactive mixed-media arts in the ommunity (Catherine Brighton`s IMAC), reception area, healthy cafe, crèche facilities and toilets.

FURNITURE IS FUN ENTERPRISES
An agency representing innovative furniture makers - promoting/displaying their work via the centre. (loan based/sale or return/promotional opportunity)

LIVING ARTS EXHIBITION AREA: spontaneous IMAC 'happenings; visual, motoric, auditory, tactile, trans-corporeal art.

Mission Statement: To freely oscillate between playful and restful states, exploring and celebrating the inner and outer conditions of movement and stillness, sound and silence, light and dark. Though impromptu and interactive artistic endeavour, in many forms - dance, music, picture making, lyricism (pause) and by simply being and receiving. Therefore participation in these events is not conditional upon doing anything, in the conventional sense. come and be our ``witness`` - audience as essence.

We are creating a rich performance environment that supports your total participation: Be the concert artist, your sound inspiring someone else`s movement; her form catching the eye of an artist - Cross Sense - sketch what you hear; dance what you see; embrace the power of the witness - Cross Over.

An exciting fluidity and inter-changability of creative roles and forms is encouraged by spontaneity enterprises - IMAC participation.

It's a paradox, but the success of Spontaneity Enterprises can perhaps only come about through detailed planning: Specific start and finish times, physical resources - levels, stages, plinths, rotatable mirrors, lights, projectors... can all help to create perspective and facilitate communication between participants, human resources - the presence of `catalysts`, rather than workshop leaders or facilitators, clear guidlines...rules! Participants need boundaries for emotional and physical safety. Private and shared resources need to be distinguishable.

RECEPTION AREA: receptionist, brochure-guidelines, Box Office, art resources Hire Service

CAFE: creative cooking (no recipes) "playing with ingredients", colour awareness, creative naming

CREATIVE TRADING: No fixed charges; spontaneous pricing; flexibility; haggle & agree

UTILITIES & PROPS: dance 'boards', plinths (movable platforms), activity mats, lighting, mirrors, seats, tables...

ART RESOURCES: paints, paper, wood, musical instruments... (other media)

BENEFITS OF A SPONTANEITY ENTERPRISES CENTRE (SEC)
Why do we need a SEC? How will users benefit from SEC? Here are some spontaneous thoughts for Christmas Day!!

Communications - technologically advanced these days, but are we communicating effectively? What are we communicating? How much time do we devote to communicating on a physical and sensory `face to face` organic level? How much of what we are communicating happens on a conscious level? I believe that human societies have become overly dependent on WORDS (written or spoken) and that we can not resolve our deepest misunderstandings and communication problems until we become practiced in non-verbal languages that employ light, sound, touch, movement... in skilled and conscious ways. Conventional social interactions can not support this quantum leap in communications. For example, every day groups of people meet at bus stops. Often there is silence. Sometimes there are comments about the weather, the time, the lateness of the bus etc. Sometimes recognition or familiarity supports the development of conversation... In the course of a week you may pass hours with the same people in this manner. You could learn something. You could learn alot, but let me give you an example of what you are unlikely to learn. I first met my friend Sharon Lewis back in 1989 in a shopping precinct in Manchester. Ordinarily we would have just passed each other by. At a bus stop we may or may not have spoke. On this ocassion I was engaged in an act of creative self expression that is sometimes tolerated in public - busking! Furthermore, the music and the words I was making were spontaneous - in the moment/ at the SEC! Most people passed me by but Sharon and her friend Miranda stopped to listen. I had managed to communicate something `out of the box`. Not to judge the song either positively or negatively, some essence of me was manifest that would ordinarily be invisible or inaudible in nearly all public and private situations. Sharon had got me on a level that my bus stop companions could never have dreamed of! We've been friends ever since. Turning it around, every single person at the bus stop harbours vast and hidden dimensions of being waiting to be born. We simply aren't able to communicate who we are in `normal life`.

Learning - my next piece will be about expanding consciousness, multiple learning pathways, multi-dimensional user interface, cross sensing, maximum accessibility, eccelerated learning...

Other topics will include: role flexibility, increased autonomy, shared responsibility, play time, experience preceeding theory...
