the tropical underground is an amorphous audiovisual collective dedicated to exploring the common ground between world rhythm, electronica and free improvisation. the idea is to create a soundtrack to ritualistic, ecstatic abandon. the music is improvised within a pre-defined rhythmic framework, allowing it to work the head and the feet.
Ever present members are:
Kevin Kermak - Percussion / Upright Bass / Electronics
Jim Black - Guitar / Electronics. Jim also plays in Freek Beat Reaktor, Phloot Groove and KoKoMoDo
Franta - Baritone Sax / Bass Clarinet / Electronics. Franta also plays in Other Worlds and KoKoMoDo.
For performance, the line up is augmented by selected guest performers which to date have included:
Alistair Strachan - Trumpet / Electronics. Alistair is a member of imrov group They Came From The Stars, I Saw Them.
Beccy Rork - Saxaphone. Beccy is extremely active on the local music scene and currently runs a number of projects including her saxaphone duo - not to be missed.
Joe Samuel - Violin / Keyboards. Joe is also a member of Kunundrum & Jambience.
Alice Eldridge - Cello / Bass. Alice also plays in pfft and Tundra.
